Mass mailing from Torrey Johnson to supporters of Chicagoland Youth for Christ. October 1944. The letter describes the upcoming major rally at Chicago Stadium, one of the major indoor venues in the city. It also indicates the way YFC was utilizing church meetings, newspaper advertising, radio, and books to spread their message and build support. Note the list of local clergy and businesspeople participating in the movement. The leaders in the YFC movement were often the same people or had connections to other influential Evangelical organizations at this time, such as the Chicago Businessmen’s Committee and the National Association of Evangelicals. From the Papers of Herbert J. Taylor, Collection 20, box 72, folder 1. |
